Nat. School 7s '07

UK Sport and the RFU ran a combined 100% ME Outreach Zone at the 2007 National School Rugby 7’s Tournament on 21-22 March 2007.

The Zone was set up next to the main field in a marquee tent and all players had easy access to the Zone.

The Zone was available over the two days when the U16 and the open teams played. All the girls teams also played on the days the Outreach was run.

On day one the Zone was set-up from 10:30 – 15:00.  The WADA laptop quiz was used as the main education tool and teams could win prizes by getting a high score on the 10 question quiz. Using the 2007 Advice Cards questions and mini tasks were given to the players to think about and once they returned with an answer prizes were given away – water bottles, caps, beanies, pens etc.

Players were also asked to pledge their support to drug-free sport by signing a Jonny Wilkinson signature panel – it was explained that Jonny is an ambassador and that he achieved his success through hard work and determination. Players were asked to sign the Jonny signature panel if they believed rugby should be drug free

The outreach was very effective and the players understood and supported the importance of ensuring rugby is kept free from prohibited substances and any cheats.

On day two the Zone was run from 10:30 – 16:00 and all the open team and girls' matches took place.

It was a very cold day and everyone was after a free beanie hat!  Teams could play the WADA laptop quiz to win prizes.

The 2007 Advice card was used to run general quizzes for the teams waiting to play the laptop quiz. The players were able to use the anti-doping manual to look up the answers.
