World Rowing '06

In August, UK Sport hosted a 100% ME Outreach Zone at the World Rowing Championships 2006.  The 100% ME programme helped global efforts in education by giving access to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s information and resources in over 10 different languages, to athletes from around the world.  WADA’s Athlete Guide, the Prohibited List and Testing Procedures Leaflets were among the resources available. The Zone succeeded in creating greater awareness and understand of anti-doping for rowers, support personnel and sport officials.

Rowers and their support personnel were invited to take part in interactive activities, including WADA’s anti-doping quiz, to improve their knowledge and understanding of anti-doping. The 100% ME team were on standby to discuss any questions or issues the athletes had and as a visible symbol of their support for doping-free sport, rowers were able to pledge their support for fair and clean sport by signing the 100% ME banner. World class rowers from all over the globe, including Great Britain , Russia , Ukraine , Germany , Canada and China willingly pledged their support of doping-free sport.

Some well known 100% ME Ambassadors and other sporting champions visited the Zone, pledged their support and spoke with other competitors about the important anti-doping responsibilities of athletes. Amongst those that visited the Zone were Guin Batten (GB Rowing and 100% ME Ambassador), Tim Foster (GB Rowing and 100% ME Ambassador), James Cracknell (GB Rowing), Sir Steve Redgrave (GB Rowing), Karen Pickering (GB Swimming), John Scott (Director Drug-Free Sport, UK Sport) and Nigel Walker (UK Sport Board member).
