The testing programme is designed to protect your reputation as a drug-free athlete, therefore it is essential that you have confidence in the programme and understand the purpose of testing.
Here are ways you can ensure the testing procedure is fair for you:
- Know your sport’s anti-doping regulations
- Know the testing procedures and your rights and responsibilities during testing
- Keep a list of medications, substances and supplements you are taking so you can accurately record them on the Sample Collection Form at the time of testing
- Keep a copy of the Sample Collection Form (so you know who tested you) in case you need to contact them for your test result
- If required, maintain your athlete whereabouts information and make sure you are available for Out-of-Competition testing.
The following tips are in your own interest
- Re-hydrate before the test – ONLY drink from a bottle that you selected and that was sealed
- When notified of a test, you should stay in full view of the Chaperone and/or DCO at all times to protect your reputation as a drug-free athlete
- While you have one (1) hour to report, you are encouraged to report to the Doping Control Station as soon as possible
- If you do not understand the Doping Control Procedures ask the DCO to explain them to you.
Your Rights
You have the right to the following:
- The DCO must have official identification and evidence of his/her authority to carry out the test from an official Anti-Doping Organisation
- The DCO should offer you the right to take a representative of your choice to the Doping Control Station
- The DCO (or witnessing official) observing the provision of the sample must be the same gender as you
- To make a comment on the testing procedures for your test
- You should receive a copy of the Sample Collection Form
- Your name should not be on any documentation intended for the laboratory.
